Gastrochilus obliquus is found in the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, Sikkim, Myanmar, northern Thailand, southern China, northern Laos and Vietnam in dense forests at elevations of 800 to 1400 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cool growing orchid with a very short stem carrying persistent, linear-oblong to obovate-oblong, bifid, bright green leaves and blooms in the fall and winter on an axillary, drooping, subcorymbose, racemose, to 8 flowered inflorescence with basal tubular sheaths and broad, obtuse floral bracts and carrying fragrant, long-lived flowers.
