Platycerium willinckii 'Java' (Java Staghorn Fern) is a popular, elegant epiphytic fern known for its tall, deeply lobed shield fronds that turn brown and create a distinct netted look, contrasting with its long, hanging fertile fronds that emerge edgewise and have silvery undersides. Native to Java, it's a collectible variety within the willinckii species, often grown indoors for its unique texture, tolerating dry spells by going dormant and restarting growth with rains, making it relatively easy to care for with bright indirect light and high humidity. 

Key Characteristics:

• Shield Fronds: Tall, deeply lobed, quickly turn dark brown and form a mesh-like structure as they decay.
• Fertile Fronds: Emerge from the bud, grow horizontally, hang down, and have finely divided tips, often appearing silvery due to dense white hairs (pubescence) on the underside.
• Size: Varies, but fertile fronds can become quite long.
